Lana Turner was not only stunningly beautiful; she had a great sense of humor and was extremely quotable.

Lana (pronounced Lawn-a) once famously said "I planned on having one husband and seven children, but it turned out the other way around."

Lana Turner was discovered at 16 by editor and publisher Billy Wilkerson, who spotted her sipping a soda in a drugstore across the street from where he worked at The Hollywood reporter.

She got her first serious break in pictures in the Mervyn LeRoy-directed picture 1937's They Won't Forget.

In it, she wore a sweater that looked so good on her, she was soon dubbed "The Sweater Girl" (a term she hated according to her daughter, Cheryl).

She went on to make some quality films in her 44-year career such as The Bad and the Beautiful, The Postman Always Rings Twice and Imitation of Life.
